Terms of service

These terms of service govern your use of cjis.io and the Cjis workspace, provided by the administrator of the cjis.io service (we, us). By creating an account or buying a plan, you accept these terms on behalf of yourself and the organization you represent.

The service

Cjis is compliance software that helps technology vendors and public agencies organize their work toward the FBI CJIS Security Policy: readiness assessment, requirements checklist, policy templates, personnel and training register, evidence locker, reminders and agency reports. Plans and their limits are described on the pricing page.

Your account

You must give a valid work email address and keep your sign-in details secure. You are responsible for everything done under your account and for the people you invite to your workspace. Tell us at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access.

Subscription and payment

Cjis is sold as a subscription, billed monthly or yearly in US dollars at the price shown when you check out. Prices exclude taxes that may apply. An upgrade to a higher plan or from monthly to yearly billing charges the price difference immediately, and the new plan starts when that payment succeeds. A move to a lower plan takes effect at the next renewal without a refund of the difference.

Automatic renewal and cancellation

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period for the same period, at the then current price, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in your account settings. Cancellation stops the next renewal, and your access continues to the end of the period you already paid for. Payments are final as set out in our refund policy.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Upload, enter or store criminal justice information (CJI) or any data you are not permitted to store with a third party, because Cjis is not built or permitted to hold CJI
  • Upload malware or content that infringes the rights of others or breaks the law
  • Try to access other customers' data, probe or break our security, or disrupt the service
  • Resell, share or sublicense access beyond the seats and organizations your plan includes
  • Use the service to build a competing product or copy its templates for redistribution

We may remove content that breaks these rules and suspend or close accounts that break them seriously or repeatedly.

No FBI affiliation

Cjis is an independent compliance tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by the FBI or the CJIS Division. The FBI does not certify companies as "CJIS certified", and using Cjis does not make your organization certified or approved by any agency.

Cjis, its templates and its readiness scores are tools, not legal advice and not an audit. Your organization remains fully responsible for its own compliance with the CJIS Security Policy, state rules and its contracts, and for confirming requirements with its CJIS Systems Agency and the agencies it serves.

Your data

You keep all rights to the data you put into Cjis. You give us permission to host and process it only to provide the service. You can export it at any time while your account is active. How we handle personal data is described in our privacy policy.

Availability and changes to the service

We work to keep the service available and secure, but we do not promise uninterrupted operation. We may improve or change features, and we do not remove a core function of your paid plan during a paid period.

Limitation of liability

The service is provided as is and as available, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, lost profits, lost contracts, audit findings or penalties. Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Suspension and termination

You can stop using the service and cancel at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, do not pay, or if the law requires it. After an account closes, you have a limited time to export your data before it is deleted.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We post the new version on this page with a new date, and for material changes we notify account holders by email before they take effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply.
